Week 1
What did you learn this year?
When I was growing up it felt like time pass so slow. And summer I couldn’t wait to go back to school. As I’ve gotten older though, time seems to just fly by. Now every December I can’t believe a year has almost past and there are only a few weeks left.
This year was no exception. Time has been flying by – it feels like just yesterday I was making my big plans for 2021 .
Every December I like to set aside time to plan for the next year. I like to reflect on what has gone well, what I’ve learned, what I’ve accomplished, and all the goals that I’ve been working on the last year. The first step to reaching your goals is to have a plan (and I have never been great at planning). And the best plans are written down. If it’s only in your head that is a dream and a wish. You can’t hit a target that you can’t see, so first, note to self: “Write it DOWN!”
Our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.

Now it’s time to make plans for 2022. And I have a set of worksheets, meditations, transformational recordings and lots more to come in a four-part series that will help you lay out your goals and take you closer to your dreams.

This year has been a rollercoaster with big ups and big downs.
- I moved to a new country (Germany) full CoVid, new language, new city, building a new therapy business that is totally different from making music. (exciting + happy, but hard starting from scratch and juggling all the responsibilities and hurdles).
- My new business has both failed (spent a lot of money on things that didn’t pan out at all, the initial products didn’t do as well as last year, and after 2 years of therapy training who knew being a hypnotherapist required marketing, editing, photography, coding and many other skills?) and flourished (I started implementing new strategies, all the hard work started to flourish, new website, new identity, more products and more revenue streams).
- I worked with over 200 people since finishing therapy school, I blogged some and spoke at a few online conferences but didn’t get even close to my goals in those areas. I didn’t read nearly as much as I normally do…
- Did some auditions, had some voice problems, had music projects, said music projects got canceled, then reinstated again.
- I finished my Master degree in orchestral studies only to not have an orchestra to play in.
- I finally learned how to build a website.
- I went on vacation to Rome.
- I spent too much money and didn’t keep in my budget.
- I failed on diet and exercise – there were too many days where meals consisted of things like hummus, tea and cookies.
- Lots and lots of good and some not so good.
As I go into 2022 I want to learn from all the things I did – for the successes I want to reflect on what made those things awesome and how I can do more of that in 2022. And for the failures, well I want to learn from my mistakes; to understand why I failed and what is the core lesson I can learn from that experience.
YOU CAN’T BUILD ON ACHIVEMENTS YOU DON’T ACKNOWLEDGE!
Emily Fletcher
The first part in this series is about looking back on the year behind and figuring out what you need to take from 2021. All the small, smaller and smallest but many achievements that need to be taken into account and celebrated. In doing so looking to grow those, and many other, successes in the new year.
So each week there will be a worksheet to work through to better hone in on all the skills, stories and successes that made this year great but also to take note of what we can learn from our failures.
Failures are merely projects we are working on.
Jose Silvas
The next 3 parts in the series will be taking those lessons and incorporating them into an action plan that will help you reach your goals in 2022.
Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.
